Signs

This afternoon and early evening Marilyn woke up a few times. This evening, she gave us two big signs. First, the nurse asked if she was in pain. Marilyn shook her head , no. Then we gave her a pen and a pad (right hand, Marilyn is left handed) and asked her to write her name. She scribbled for a moment and then clearly wrote an "M".

small steps are very big news during this time. just after marilyn shook her head that same nurse wondered if we had given her a pad and pen. we had not really thought of that, so when she awoke the next time we showed her a pen and the pad and asked her if she wanted to write her name. she expertly, no joke, took the pen and scribbled a little, then wrote a capital M deftly. after that i think she was a little scared. she probably wanted to write more, but realized she could not quite yet. i have been here since monday and get home late sunday night. gareth is doing well, though is agonized with the thought of leaving marilyn alone tonight. it will be the first night since her accident that he has not been with her. it will also be the first night he has slept in a bed, so i think he is ready. needs to recharge the batteries. happy birthday to rowin and i cannot tell you how much this blog raises everyone's spirits!!!

we read some of the comments to marilyn today. thanks to alex and bill for creating it last sunday!! you both rock. love to all and all to love!!

Wow what great news! Every day you get better Marilyn. Writing the letter M seems like a huge leap forward. I will be by your side on sunday and it will have been a full week since I saw you last. I can't wait to see the progress you've made.

Gareth - today was the first day since the accident that we have not talked. I was sad not to get a chance to get an update, until I read the great news on the blog :) You are a rock and have been sooooo amazing through all of this. Marilyn is so lucky to have your love and I am sure that she is feeling it and drawing from it to give her strength.

Much love,

Rachel (and Bernie)

This is great news! I've checked the blog about 10 times today and could not be happier to read this. Keep it up, Mar! You're getting stronger every day. Sarah and I are coming to visit you soon.

Gareth, I hope you are able to get some rest. You have been so strong and decisive through all of this. I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks.

Stay strong you two!

Love,
Melissa

Ok Marilyn, Rowin and the rest of us sent you major energy blowing out candles. Im so glad Roberta was able to visit with you and let you know how much we feel for you. He says you even smirked! thats the marilyn I know. Dont ever feel lonely because you are being thought of all the time. In fact I just opened a chart to work on and your name is on it! Marmot misses you and played you a tune naked on his sax.
So get on home and make me some coffee!
Gareth thank you for talking, you are the "A" Team.
Loves, Hugs and Kisses from us all
Steph, Roberta and Rowin

I was so extremely happy to hear that Mar is still steadily progressing! That photo of her doing a gymnastics pose brought back a stream of memories for me...I was on the team with Mar. She was always so athletic: gymnastics, softball, running, hiking, biking! I know she will regain her movement and be able to return to her normal adventurous self again.

Sending my love & support,
Jen

Go Marilyn!!! This is great progress. When I left the hospital Friday morning we managed to get a smile out of her when I told her to explain the Colorado Rockies game and the rules of baseball to Chris. That was funny and promising, and now the promise continues with an "M"!!!

Rowin "the marmot" and all of us here blew out some birthday candles for you, Marilyn. We were blowing away any pain and fear and sending you healing energy.

Hi M & G,
Beel and I are loggin in at Let it Grow Nursery to get the latest up-dates. While at Crow Canyon we heard the exciting news about Marilyn's latest progress and the writing of the "M". I think this blog has half the county and friends and family around the country logging in all over the place. Everyone who knows you two has you both on their minds and in their hearts.

Rowin's birthday party was a wonderful comic release from all this stress. He entertained a room full of "adults" by running around in his diaper and tooting on his new blue, plastic sax. I'm afraid to inform you, Gareth, that in your absence, you have some competition for your place in the band. Rowin really knows how to toot his own horn and make us all laugh. You two would have loved it, as well as Chris. But we were all holding you close to our hearts.

Keep on writing and healing. And Gareth, I'm glad to hear you're taking care of yourself too. I'm sure the dogs had lot's of love to give you.

Willa, Kestral, and Bill join me in sending hugs and kisses!!! and perhaps some rain your way.

XOXOX, Alex
